South African Texas Transfer is a convention. This convention is alertable.

South African Texas Transfer is a convention used after a 1NT or 2NT openings:

1NT/2NT -

• 4♣: transfer to 4♥
• 4♦: transfer to 4♠
• 4♥/4♠: preemptive and to play.

Now, there are three ways to arrive at 4♥ or 4♠:

• Using Jacoby transfer to show a hand with slam interest;
• Using South African Texas Transfer to show an intermediate hand just enough for game;
• Bid directly to show a weak hand with a long major.

The drawback is the loss of Gerber.
