Namyats is the conventional openings of 4♣ and 4♦, showing a strong hand of ♥s and ♠s respectively. This is commonly used in combination with gambling 3NT because a weak hand containing long solid ♣ or ♦ can be opened with 3NT.
Openings[]
When Namyats is on, the following apply:
- 4♣: a strong hand with long (typically 8) ♥s;
- 4♦: a strong hand with long (typically 8) ♠s;
- 4♥: a weak hand with long (typically 8) ♥s;
- 4♠: a weak hand with long (typically 8) ♠s.
A strong hand is normally defined as a hand with 5 or less losers, a weak hand is a hand with no defensive values (e.g. no outside ace). A normal 1-level opening is used with hands in-between. With hand that contains nearly a game in its own, with defensive values, an artificial strong opening (e.g. 2♣) is used.
An example of a typical Namyats hand is:
♠ | x |
---|---|
♥ | AKQJxxxx |
♦ | x |
♣ | Axx |
which the opening bid is 4♣.
